The archive of the Automobile Welt Eisenach Foundation

The archive was established around 1945. The documents filed there depict the history of the Fahrzeugfabrik Eisenach, the BMW Werk Eisenach and the VEB Automobilwerk Eisenach and the liquidation of these factories. The archive contains a large number of economic documents, in particular for the time after 1945, and the virtually complete former factory archive, which is divided into a technical archive (mainly drawings), a factory archive (mainly company administration, but also social and societal aspects) and extensive collections (mainly photographs and films). Partial company records which had to be handed over to the Staatsarchiv Weimar (Weimar State Archive) between 1949 und 1989 are to be found in the Thüringisches Hauptstaatsarchiv (Thuringian Principal State Archive) in Weimar. A large part of the films are deposited in the Bundesfilmarchiv (German Federal Film Archive). For the time after 1989, the archive contains trade union and works council documents and a collection for the Eisenach Opel factory.
